*full disclosure: QiFlow is not yoga, nor is it a new style of yoga.
QiFlow is a movement practice that incorporates techniques to increase mobility, strength, endurance and grace. Our method is designed to create beautiful movers who believe that all movement is possible with practice and perseverance. QiFlow is not yoga; it uses familiar movements of the yoga practice, but it is not yoga. Expect a workout on the mat in every QiFlow class, a workout designed to leave the student sweaty and sore, vibrating with exhaustion and energy, completely transformed.
A few years ago I started to wonder what more I could do with my body. What new challenges I could take on and how much was I missing by only practicing yoga. I was strong on the mat; crazy strong and flexible. I was a “good” yoga student and was praised for my ability many times throughout my yoga career. It would have been easy for me to stay where I was in my practice and my teaching; in the eyes of others, I had made it. I reached for my goals and I had made it. I was a well-known yoga teacher, a yoga teacher trainer and director, I owned my own yoga studios, my yogadownload videos were being downloaded by people across the globe and I was on the fast track to getting noticed and forever labeled as a professional yoga teacher who traveled the world leading yoga retreats, workshops and trainings. I had made it. I was a successful and profitable full-time yoga teacher, but I was not happy. I was very happy, inspired and content during the time I reached for my goal of becoming a popular, well-known, successful yoga teacher; but, once I made it, I lost it. I was no longer in love with yoga, I had gone as far as I could/wanted to, and I was bored, uninspired and ready to walk away.
“It’s a shame for a person to grow old without ever seeing the strength and beauty of which the body is capable.” – Socrates
I couldn’t go out like that. I didn’t want to be comfortable, I didn’t want easy. I wanted to keep reaching higher and deeper to see how far I could actually go. I wanted to be known as a teacher who explored my practice and my teaching to it’s deepest depths, and I craved to know what else I could do. I was starved for a challenge, and bored with accepting life ‘as-is’, it was time for me to move on, so I chose to do so. I left yoga and turned my world upside down and inside out. This is how I created QiFlow… it’s been a journey like no other in my life.
QiFlow is not for everyone. It’s a practice that requires the student to be ready for transformation, both in mind and body. It’s perfect for the person who feels stagnant, that person who keeps showing up at the gym or yoga studio, yet fails to notice or feel any change in their body, mind or behavior. QiFlow is not only a movement practice, it’s a way of life. The work is never done; the practice is ever-fluid and it follows you off the mat, out of the studio, into your everyday life.
